Federal Standard 1037C, Glossary of Telecommunication Terms, contains more than211u001e5800 entries defining the components of several disciplines in telecommunications 211u001etechnology. Use of this large glossary is enhanced with the search engine 211u001edesigned specifically for the two HTML versions of the glossary: the online 211u001eversion and the CD-ROM version. The search engine provides speedy access to the 211u001eentire text of the definitions containing the specified character string used in 211u001ethe search. This report discusses the need for the search engine, its design 211u001ecriteria, functions, enhancements, and benefits. The computer code for the search 211u001eengine, which was developed using Perl scripts, is listed in the appendix.
