Potential Species for Phytoremediation of Perchlorate

Three laboratory-scale experiments were conducted to: (1) evaluate the ability of211u001eselected terrestrial, wetland, and aquatic plants to remove perchlorate from an 211u001eaqueous solution; (2) compare the performance of different age classes of ne 211u001eplant species; (3) evaluate the role of nutrients on perchlorate removal; (4) 211u001edetermine the fate of perchlorate removed from solution (e.g., plant tissue 211u001edistribution; accumulation vs. breakdown); (5) document external plant responses 211u001eto perchlorate; and (6) predict field-scale performance of the plant species 211u001eevaluated. Perchlorate concentrations of 0.2, 2.0, and 20 ppm were tested in 211u001eaqueous and sand treatments for ten-day periods in each experiment.
