The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Emission Standards Division (ESD)211u001eis investigating iron and steel foundries to identify and quantify hazardous air 211u001epollutants (HAPs) emitted from cupolas; electric arc furnaces; and pouring, 211u001ecooling and shakedown operations of sand mold casting processes. The Waupaca 211u001eFoundry, located in Tell City, Indiana, uses a baghouse and was the subject of 211u001ethis test program. Testing at the Waupaca Foundry was conducted by two EMAD 211u001econtractors to address the following ESD requirements: (1) characterize HAP 211u001eemissions from cuplas that are controlled by baghouses; (2) characterize 211u001euncontrolled HAP emissions from pouring, cooling, and shakeout (PCS) processes; 211u001e(3) determine baghouse performance in controlling HAP emissions from cupolas; and 211u001e(4) identify surrogates for estimating HAP emissions from the subject foundary 211u001eprocesses.
