This reports details the development of retrofit procedures, verified by211u001eexperimental testing, for reinforced concrete bridge columns and their 211u001econnections. The report describes the development of a comprehensive theory for 211u001eanalyzing the inelastic shear force versus shear deformation behavior of columns. 211u001eTo achieve this, two concrete shear truss mechanisms (constant angle truss and 211u001evariable angle truss) were investigated and as a result, new truss models based 211u001eon numerical integration schemes were suggested and analyzed. These models will 211u001eenable structural engineers to quantitatively as well as qualitatively understand 211u001ethe flow of forces at any instance of column deformation. They are suitable for 211u001ehad (design office) analysis. However, more sophisticated truss models can easily 211u001ebe incorporated with comprehensive computational model-based techniques (such as 211u001eDRAIN-2DX).
