On November 6, 1998, two male volunteer fire fighters died while performing an211u001einterior fire attack in an auto salvage storage building fire. The 29-year-old 211u001eChief (Victim no. 1) of Department no. 2 and the 24-year-old Lieutenant (Victim 211u001eno. 2) of Department no. 3 entered the structure through the front door with four 211u001eadditional fire fighters to locate the origin of the fire. Approximately eleven 211u001eminutes after they entered the structure, they were separated from their hose 211u001eline and knocked to the floor by intense heat and thick, black smoke. Victim no. 211u001e1 became disoriented and his self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) ran out of 211u001eair as he searched for an exit. Victim no. 2 who had excited earlier, reentered 211u001ethe structure to search for Victim no. 1, also became disoriented and his SCBA 211u001eran out of air.
