Year 2000 Issues: Technology Problems and Industrial Chemical Safety. Report to211 the Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem

On December 18, 1998, at the request of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on the211u001eYear 2000 Technology Problem, Dr. Gerald Poje, one of Chemical Safety and Hazard 211u001eInvestigation Boards Board Members convened a Year 2000 (Y2K) workshop (Appendix 211u001eI). The workshop brought together professionals from the public and private 211u001esectors for the purpose of drawing on the participants expertise in order to 211u001eassess the impact of the Y2K problem with regard to catastrophic events in the 211u001echemical process plants. Appendix II contains a copy of the workshop agenda and a 211u001elist of those individuals who attended. Issues addressed by the workshop were 211u001elimited to safe and continuous production, storage, and distribution of chemicals 211u001ecritical to a range of American industries. The invited participants examined the 211u001eimpact of Y2K failures vis-a-vis process control and automation within the 211u001eprocess industry.
