摘要

The University of Kentucky Center for Health Services Management and Research,211u001ethe Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and the Rural Center sponsored a two-day 211u001econference in September 1999 on Integrated Models of Long Term Care: Rural 211u001eApplications. The purpose of the conference was to bring researchers, policy 211u001emakers and providers together to discuss the current research in models 211u001eintegrating payers, providers and clients, new models being implemented, and how 211u001erural programs can be implemented. An agenda for further research was also 211u001edeveloped. Four commissioned papers reviewing the research on these models were 211u001epresented, with responses by providers and policy makers at state and local 211u001elevels. Providers also presented their programs, with a response from 211u001eresearchers. Models represented Arizona, Illinois, Kentucky, New York, Oregon, 211u001eSouth Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and several New England 211u001estates. While a full range of long-term care services may be lacking, rural areas 211u001emay have better cooperation among acute and long-term care providers. Rural 211u001emodels capitalize on other strengths. Areas identified for further research 211u001eincluded the effectiveness of case management models, contracts and gatekeeping 211u001earrangements for rural providers, and innovations in training and recruitment for 211u001erural nursing home staff.
