Hot-Mix Asphalt Pavement Construction Report for the 1993-2000 FHWA Accelerated211 Loading Facility Project

The Federal Highway Administration is conducting studies to validate Superpave211u001ebinder and mixture tests using its Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF). The ALF is 211u001ea full-scale pavement testing machine that applies one-half of a single rear 211u001etruck axle load. Several other tests that have been developed to predict the 211u001eperformances of asphalt mixtures, such as wheel-tracking devices, are also being 211u001eevaluated. Twelve pavements were constructed at the Turner-Fairbank Highway 211u001eResearch Center in 1993. The rutting and fatigue cracking susceptibilities of the 211u001epavements are to be determined using the ALF. This report documents the mixture 211u001edesigns, construction procedures, and quality control and quality assurance tests 211u001efor the asphalt pavement layers.
