This investigation was conducted to characterize the risk of occupational injury,211u001eillness, and fatality associated with industries composed mostly of small 211u001ebusiness establishments. The three primary objectives of this investigation were 211u001eas follows: To identify standard industrial classification (SIC) codes meeting 211u001ethe definition of a small business industry; To identify the top 25% of the 211u001ehighest-risk small business industries by ranking them according to total cases 211u001eand incidence rates (IRs) of occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities; To 211u001eidentify the top 25% of the highest-risk small business industries by ranking 211u001ethem according to a combined risk index achieved by combining data on injuries, 211u001eillnesses, and fatalities.
