The International Institute of Tropical Forestry was authorized by the McSweeney-211u001eMcNary Forest Research Act of 1928, but was not founded until 1939. Although 211u001einitial research focused on establishing the foundation of forestry in the 211u001eAmerican Tropics, research for the past 20 years has expanded to include 211u001eecological research.
