This report compares the mode I boundary correction factor solutions for two211u001esymmetric elliptical cracks emanating from a straight-shank hole. A global-211u001eintermediate-local (GIL) hierarchical approach was developed using the finite 211u001eelement method (FEM). Comparisons were made with the following methods: the FEM 211u001ewith the equivalent domain integral, semiempirical boundary correction factor 211u001eequations, the finite element alternating method, the boundary element method 211u001ewith the crack opening displacement approach, the boundary element method using 211u001especial crack-tip elements, and the three-dimensional weight function method.
