This report explains the collision of Union Pacific freight trains MKSNP-01 and211u001eZSEME-29 near Delia, Kansas, on July 2, 2997. One crewmember was killed, and 1 211u001ecrewmember sustained minor injuries as a result of this accident. Damages related 211u001eto the accident exceeded $5.1 million. From its investigation of this accident, 211u001ethe Safety Board identified safety issues in the following areas: the MKSNP-01 211u001eengineer's performance, the Union Pacific Railroad's fatigue education program, 211u001ecrew resource management, and positive train separation control systems.
