The National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) was developed to provide mid-term (20211u001eto 25 years) forecasts and analyses of energy-related activities. The NEMS 211u001eElectricity Market Module (EMM) provides a major link in the NEMS framework. The 211u001eEMM represents the capacity planning, generation, transmission, and pricing of 211u001eelectricity, subject to: delivered prices for coal, petroleum products, and 211u001enatural gas; the cost of centralized generation facilities; macroeconomic 211u001evariables for costs of capital and domestic investment; and electricity load 211u001eshapes and demand. The submodules consist of capacity planning, fuel dispatching, 211u001efinance and pricing, and load and demand-side management. In addition, nonutility 211u001esupply and electricity trade are represented in the fuel dispatching and capacity 211u001eplanning submodules. Nonutility generation from cogenerators and other facilities 211u001ewhose primary business is not electricity generation is represented in the demand 211u001eand fuel supply modules. All other nonutility generation is represented in the 211u001eEMM. The generation of electricity is accounted for in 13 supply regions.
