摘要

The object of the report was to examine the evidence of effectiveness of211u001erehabilitation methods at various phases in the course of recovery from traumatic 211u001ebrain injury (TBI) in adults. Specifically, we addressed five questions about the 211u001eeffectiveness of (1) early rehabilitation in the acute care setting, (2) 211u001eintensity of acute inpatient rehabilitation, (3) cognitive rehabilitation, (4) 211u001esupported employment, and (5) care coordination (case management). A MEDLINE 211u001esearch (1976 to 1997) supplemented by searches of HealthSTAR (1995 to 1997), 211u001eCINAHL (1982 to 1997), PsycINFO (1984 to 1997), and reference lists of key 211u001earticles. The population-based studies are needed to examine the overall impact 211u001eof TBI and the differences in outcomes associated with different rehabilitation 211u001estrategies. Future studies of cognitive rehabilitation and case management should 211u001efocus on health outcomes of importance to people with TBI and their families.
