Two standards have been developed that pertain to the safety of fusion211u001efacilities. These are DOE-STD-6002-96, Safety of Magnetic Fusion Facilities: 211u001eRequirements, and DOE-STD-6003-96, Safety of Magnetic Fusion Facilities: 211u001eGuidance. The first of these standards identifies requirements that subscribers 211u001eto that standard must meet to achieve safety in fusion facilities. The second 211u001estandard contains guidance to assist in meeting the requirements identified in 211u001ethe first. This handbook provides additional documentation on good operations and 211u001edesign practices as well as lessons learned from the experiences of designers and 211u001eoperators of previous fusion facilities and related systems. It is intended to 211u001ecapture the experience gained in the various fields and pass it on to designers 211u001eof future fusion facilities as a means of enhancing success and safety.
