This report documents the findings of a project to identify improved means to211u001ecollect, manage, and use crash, inventory, traffic, and other data to design 211u001esafer highways. Improved safety information is essential to making effective 211u001edesign decisions and formulating sound policies for the design of vertical and 211u001ehorizontal alignments, cross sections, roadside treatments, and traffic controls. 211u001eThe contents of this report are, therefore, of immediate interest to highway and 211u001efacility designers and those concerned with systemwide safety improvement 211u001eprograms.
