Construction of around 10km of the US 183 elevated in Austin, Texas, using211u001eprecast segmental postensioned construction provided a unique opportunity to 211u001einvestigate many aspects of segmental bridge technology. The project included 211u001ebalanced catilever erection, span-by-span erection and some cast-in-place 211u001etransitions. Some of the piers were also made with precast box sections. A 211u001edetailed instrumentation study was carried out to determine post-tensioning force 211u001elosses, thermal gradients and their effects, live load response, behavior of 211u001elocal zones such as diaphragms p-t anchorages and blisters and diffusion of post-211u001etensioning forces, as well as evaluation of the degree of continuity obtained 211u001ewith the semicontiunuous details utilized. The measurement results are presented 211u001eand evaluated. Recommendations are made for improvement in bridge design 211u001especifications and construction practices.
