Effect of Artificial Solar Light on Wood and Coatings on Wood Surface

The aim of this research was to study loss of gloss and discoloration of natural wood and coated wood in artificial weathering in indoor conditions. Six wood species were used: ash, oak, beech, birch, pine, spruce, and three different coatings. Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation was generated with solar lamps that imitate the solar radiation with wavelengths 280-2000 nm. The influence of humidity on wood color was examined at 50% and 80% relative humidity (RH) levels. The exposure time was 1000 h.
