Cross-well induction logging as known in the oil industry is a method for211u001edetermining the electrical conductivity distribution between boreholes from the 211u001elow-frequency electromagnetic field measurements in the boreholes. In this paper 211u001ewe discuss the reconstructions of the three-dimensional (3-D) conductivity 211u001edistribution using the Contrast Source Inversion (CSI) method. In order to 211u001eimprove the reconstruction results the concept of the extended Born approximation 211u001ehas been used to arrive at a preconditioning operator. Results of a number of 211u001enumerical examples show that by using this preconditioning operator a large 211u001econductivity contrast of the unknown objects (factor of 100) can be reconstructed 211u001eup to an acceptable degree of accuracy. Moreover, in each iteration the 211u001ecomputational effort to generate the preconditioning operator is negligible.
