The Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine on the eastern shore of Clear Lake is the source of211u001epoor quality acid mine drainage seeping into Clear Lake. Lateral and vertical 211u001egeochemical trends in ground water composition point to a number of redox 211u001ereactions taking place as a function of subsurface water-rock interactions. An 211u001eunderstanding of these reactions suggests opportunities to remediate the acid 211u001emine drainage through suppression of undesirable geochemical reactions. Two 211u001egeochemically based remediation steps are proposed.
