The explosives in the ammunition used by the armed forces today do not meet contemporary environmental demands concerning toxicity and biological degradability. Currently a great deal of research is done to replace out-of-date environmental hazardous explosives by less hazardous. One of the aims in the research project is to characterize the expose related and effect related properties of new explosives. Two new explosives, CL20 (hexanitrohexaazaiscowurtzitan) and FOX-7 (1-dinitro 2-diaminoeten) have been developed at the department of Energetiska material, FOA 21. The aim with this work was to investigate the acute toxicity of these two explosives in the water flea, Daphnia magna.
