Arrowhead Space and Telecommunications, Inc. conducted a research project to211u001eidentify unique aspects of operations within the motorcoach industry which may 211u001eproduce bus driver fatigue and stress. Funding for and oversight of the study was 211u001eprovided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Office of Motor Carriers 211u001e(OMC). The purpose of this study is to (1) identify from direct interaction with 211u001emotorcoach owners, safety directors, operations managers, and drivers those 211u001efatigue-inducing stresses which they believe are unique to the motorcoach 211u001eindustry; (2) evaluate the relative influence of these stresses on bus driver 211u001efatigue; (3) provide relevant feedback to the FHWA/OMC for its use in future 211u001edecisions which will affect the motorcoach industry; and (4) develop an outreach 211u001evideo to help motorcoach drivers understand the effects of fatigue, the stresses 211u001ethat induce it, and means to reduce it.
