摘要

This Best Practices in Minority Dementia Care Compendium was developed as a special project by the Washington, DC Area Geriatric Education Center Consortium (WAGECC). Through a generous grant provided by The Office of Minority Health, U.S. Public Health Service, the Compendium was prepared by a team of African American and Hispanic experts in dementia care from the Washington, DC regional area. Each team member collected best practice ideas from minority caregivers in the local community, in both in-home and institutional settings. In addition, the team screened more than 150 ideas submitted by a multi-ethnic group of caregivers for other WAGECC best practices in dementia care events and selected those that would be useful for minority caregivers and patients. We have also included valuable comments made by the team members as they reviewed these best practices. It should be noted here that many of the best practices in the Compendium can be replicated with minor adjustments (and some with no adjustments) for all population groups.
