FOA has carried out a risk analysis of a planned combustion test chamber for the Combustion Center at Lund Institute of Technology. The combustion test chamber will be used for pressurized combustion and vaporization tests. The contents of the risk analysis are: system description, hazard identification, consequence analysis and recommendations. The plant is most likely to threaten the surroundings if a module would be filled with combustible gas or vapors and then exploded. In that case people at close range would suffer from damages to the ears and risk being hit by projectiles and fragments. These consequences are, however, typical for any installation with flammable gases or liquids, and not specific for this plant. Consequences from explosions in the combustor units indoors are limited to the rooms, as the walls are very thick. The exhaust fan is located outdoor, however. The most important recommendation is to change the design of the fuel system. Another important conclusion is that it seems difficult to rule out that there will be no back-burning from the post-combustion chamber to the cooling chamber.
