This report presents information on deaths related to drug abuse that werereported to the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) by 141 participating medical examiners (MEs) in 42 metropolitan areas in 1998. The Office of Applied Studies in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is responsible for the operation of DAWN.
