摘要

The National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice (NACNEP) isauthorized under Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary and Congress concerning the range of issues relating to the nurse workforce, education, and practice improvement. In its 1996 Report to the Secretary on the Basic Nursing Workforce the council identified increasing the racial/ethnic minority population and relatively slow growth in the number of minority RNs have become increasingly evident, NACNEP has now determined that the Nation should set an action agenda to rally and direct efforts to address the longstanding issue of underrepresentation of racial/ethnic minorities in the nursing workforce. This report presents issues related to racial/ethnic diversity in nursing education and practice and recommends goals and actions that can serve as a national action agenda to be undertaken to address those issues.
