摘要

The Nahiku area is underlain by lavas of the Honomanu Basalt, Kula Volcanis, andHana Volcanics, Stearns and Macdonald concluded that the ground-water system in the Nahiku area consists of a succession of perched water bodies in the Kula Volacanics, a perched artesian water body in the upper part of the Honomanu Basalt and a basal water body with water levels 5 to 10 feet above sea level in the Honomanu Basalt. These authors further concluded that streams in the area are perennial in areas where they intersect perched water bodies in the Kula Volcanics, but otherwise either lose water or are intermittent. The artesian water body was believed to be the source of water to Big Spring, the biggest spring on Maui.
