Increased Capacity Automobile Transporter; Feasibility Study and Road-HandlingAnalysis

The objective of this project was to study the feasibility of developingautomobile transporters with a greater carrying capacity without compromising their handling characteristics. In the context of this project, the primary handling characteristics of interest is offtracking. The offtracking analysis was based on actual measurements and computer simulation based on design drawings provided by three equipment manufacturers. This report presents results from the offtracking analysis performed using the manufacturers design, as well as alternative designs that were suggested by The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.
