Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base (RANGB) is a military installation nearColumbus, Ohio. In 1980, the Deparment of Defense closed Rickenbacker Air Force Base, disposed of its excess property, and transferred the remaining management of operation responsibilities to the Air National Guard. In January 1994, RANGB was proposed for listing on the United States Environmental Protection Agency National Priorities List because of contamination detected in the base groundwater and surface water. Past base operations and waste handling practices resulted in contamination of site media by volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and metals at 44 sites and the Rickenbacker Landfill being investigated under the Department of Defense's Installation Restoration Program.
