This publication presents the state-of-the-art of the controlled-distanceelectrochemistry (CDE) arrangement developed at VTT. Due to the possibility to control accurately the distance between two electrodes, the CDE arrangement makes possible electrochemical measurements in poorly-conductive media such as simulated coolants of light water reactor systems. This experimental arrangement has now been developed into a versatile electrochemical tool, which can be used for thin-layer electrochemistry (TLEC), wall-jet ring-disc and contact electric impedance (CEI) as well as contact electric resistance (CER) measurements. This report comprises results from the years 1997-1999 and summarizes the different possible TLEC configurations and electrode locations as well as the development of a bellows-driven CDE arrangement.
