The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry evaluated expressed concernsof residents living near Alaska Pulp Company regarding dioxin levels in the environment and their potential bioaccumulation in foods. Evaluation of the environmental biota collected from the Sitka Tribe Food Testing Program, the Remedial Investigation, and the EPA Reconnaissance Survey represented no apparent public health hazard, where based on the available data, level of contamination to which people may be exposed are below levels expected to cause health problems.
