摘要

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) Advanced Public TransportationSystem (APTS) project is an application of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to fixed-route and paratransit operations in a rural transit setting. The purpose of the project is to apply ITS technology that will improve intermodal transportation services for the residents of rural Cape Cod as well as for visitors to the region. The CCRTA fleet includes approximately 85 vehicles, and the service area covers 400 square miles. CCRTA's operations include an extensive dial-a-ride paratransit service, regional fixed routes, several community bus services, and seasonal village trolleys. While the paratransit system serves residents of the Cape only, the Cape is a heavy summer tourist destination, and the fixed-route services experience significant seasonal changes in demand. Peak summer traffic congestion can also significantly affect CCRTA's operations. The Cape Cod APTS system is being implemented in a number of phases. Phase 1 took place over the course of 1998 and 1999, and Phase 2 is being implemented between January and May 2000.
