Secondary Injury Factors and Preventative Treament in CNS Trauma

This grant focused on three major research areas: (1) identification/elucidationof secondary injury factors that contribute to delayed neuronal/tissue loss, using tools from molecular and cellular neurobiology; (2) development of new in vitro and in vivo trauma models to accelerate the discovery of pathobiological mechanisms and the investigation of new pharmacological treatments; and (3) evaluation of novel pharmacological treatments to limit secondary injury and improve neurological outcome for potential clinical use.
