摘要

Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) is the oldest and largest University ofTechnology in Finland. The university provides the highest level of technical education in fourteen-degree programs, which cover most fields of technology. Corrosion and Material Chemistry is a part of the degree program Materials Science and Rock Engineering which concentrates on the interactions between materials and the operating environment. The course gives basic information on the chemical and electrochemical reactions of materials and environments, the application of materials in different environments, and corrosion prevention methods. Topics discussed in this paper include the history and present status of corrosion and material chemistry; research areas such as marine technology, process industry and energy production, hydrometallurgy, electrolysis processes, surface engineering, and measurement methods; equipment; and ISOSAARI marine corrosion tests.
