This report describes a methodology to evaluate the effect of imperfectionsresulting from the fabrication process on vessel strength. It addresses both strength and fatigue issues relevant to deformed and misaligned structure. Hull girder performance is characterized by the loss of load carrying capacity of the cross section based on predictions made by the computer program ULTSTR. ULTSTR estimates the ductile collapse of the hull girder assuming the collapse results from a sequence of failures of local components. Closed form solutions describing the structural response of these local components have been updated in ULTSTR based on finite appropriate maximum misalignment amplitudes based on fatigue considerations is also described. This approach also uses finite element methods to determine stress concentration factors associated with misaligned details.
