摘要

The many benefits of the cable bolting method, as well as the material properties of the steel strands used, have increased interest in expanding the use of cable bolting in rock construction. However, the uncertainty of the sensitivity to corrosion has been the main problem to be solved before cable bolts can be accepted for long-term reinforcement. It is also important to determine the differences in the mechanical behavior between cable bolts and conventional rock bolts like rebars. The 'Corrosion-Protected Cable Bolts in Long-term Reinforcement' research project began at the Helsinki University of Technology in autumn 1999. Its goal was to study the applicability of corrosion-protected cable bolts in long-term reinforcement. The project was divided in two, with the first project concentrating on determining the mechanical applicability of corrosion-protected cable bolts by double pipe axial tests. Based on this study, the corrosion-protected strands can be used for rock supporting in rock construction. The design strength for the strands should, however, be lower than for the rebars because of the non-elastic behavior of the strands at higher loads.
