Intensity Measurements in an Analogue Local Telephone Network. Summary and Conclusion, with applications to the Digital and Data Services

This monograph gives a summary about usability of different continuous or periodical intensity Measurement routines of one circuit-group, in light of the described bulk measurements about regularity in telephone traffic variations. Optimization of a combination of circuit-groups with overflow puts other requirements to the intensity measurements routines. When applied to digital networks with data and other new services, or network competition, the intensity measurements get a changing role, even sketched here. The measurements of local traffic in Helsinki have been documented and published in international conferences of traffic science or standardizers. Thus they have, for their part, influenced the developing work of the international teletraffic standards in the 1980's and 1990's. The content was gathered up in three reports and a wide article. These are condensed here as well.
