摘要

Alpine Geophysics, LLC (AG) and its subcontractor team carried out a comprehensive meteorological and photochemical air quality model evaluation study for the Coordinating Research Council (CRC) utilizing high-resolution emissions, meteorological, and air quality data collected during the 1991 Lake Michigan Ozone Study (LMOS). Under CRC Projects A-24 and A-35B, the study team evaluated the CAMx and Models-3/CMAQ regional photochemical models using meteorological inputs produced by two mesoscale prognostic meteorological models: the PSU/NCAR Mesoscale Meteorological Model (MM5) and the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS3c). The CAMx/MM5 and CAMx/RAMS systems were set up and evaluated for both the 26-28 June and 17-19 July 1991 LMOS episodes while CMAQ/MM5 was tested for 26-28 June 1991 episode only. These two periods were intensively monitored during the 1991 Lake Michigan Ozone Study. A number of technical reports and journal papers have been published describing the aerometric characteristics of these episodes. The specific goal of the combined A-24/A-35B projects was to compare the base case performance and sensitivity of two publicly available regional photochemical dispersion models to changes in emissions, initial and boundary conditions, and other model input parameters. A subsidiary goal was to conduct an independent scientific evaluation of the MM5 and RAMS3c mesoscale models.
