The Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program is the key Forest Service program that provides the information needed to assess status and trends of the Nation's forests. Information collected and reported on includes: extent, size and species composition of forests; forest growth and mortality rates; forest land ownership patterns; rates and efficiency of wood utilization; and forest health and sustainability. This business report summarizes FIA program activities in fiscal year 2000.
