摘要

Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) tubes filled with concrete will not be subjected to corrosion as seen with steel and reinforced concrete piles for bridges. This study deals with the development testing of the GFRP tubes in the laboratory and testing the GFRP tubes filled with concrete driven in the test site. Two methods of driving these piles were developed in this study on the basis of a comprehensive testing of these tubes. One method was to drive the GFRP tube into the soil using a steel mandrel and filled with concrete at the site and the other method was to fill the GFRP tubes with concrete and drive them using conventional methods. This report deals with 12 in. (300 mm) and 16 in. (400 mm) diameters GFRP tubes for both methods of driving. Both methods of driving proved to be successful and the relative costs were provided in the appendix. The design guidelines of GFRP tubes and their erection techniques are summarized in a separate appendix.
