This paper surveys both U.S. direct investment abroad (USDIA) and foreign directinvestment in the United States (FDIUS) during 1990-98. The study examines investment trends by country and by industry, sales by affiliates both in the United States and abroad, and the connection between direct investment flows and cross-border trade.
