Operational Evaluation of Right Turns Followed by U-Turns as an Alternative to Direct Left Turns.

摘要

The project evaluated safety and operational impacts of two alternative left-turn treatments from driveways/side streets. The two treatments were: (1) direct left turns (DLT) and, Right turns followed by U-turns (RTUT). Delay and travel time models were developed using the collected data. The findings indicated that RTUT has more merits than DLT under high volume conditions from a traffic operations standpoint.
