Durability and Performance Characteristics of Hot Mix Asphalt Containing Polymer Additives Phase I: Laboratory Study

A comprehensive laboratory test program was designed and carried out to study the rheological and mechanical properties of asphalt binders modified with polymer additives, as well as to investigate the mechanical and performance characteristics of hot mixtures containing polymer modifiers. A total of four polymer brands were used in the study. The binder tests conducted include Brookfield Rotational Viscometer, Dynamic Shear Rehometer (DSR), Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR), and Direct Tension. Un-aged as well as short term and long term-aged samples were studied.
