Smart Machines and Systems: Recent Advances in Mechatronics in Finland

The future success of machine and electromechanical industries depends on theirability to effectively incorporate advanced information technology into their products and processes. Smart Machines and Systems 2010 is a Finnish technology program (1997-2000) funded by Tekes (The National Technology Agency) focusing on the mechatronics approach. The aim is to provide participating companies with creative product scenarios to serve as product development guidelines well into the new century. The program strives to help companies to discover and utilize new technologies and to respond to new market demands including changing customer values and preferences. Through co-operation with research institutions and universities it offers opportunities and methods to develop ideas and scenarios especially in the product pre-development stage. Additionally, the program provides companies with an extensive network of experts in product development methodologies and several other specialized fields.
