Due to high concentrations of mercury (Hg) in fish from Maine lakes, ponds, rivers and streams, the Maine Bureau of health issued a statewide 'fish consumption advisory' in 1994, warning Maine citizens to limit consumption of fish from all fresh waters. Impacts on wildlife, however, are less well known in Maine and elsewhere.
