The emphasis of this study is to look at the future of the Lower Susquehanna River basin. The study area is the eight counties of south central Pennsylvania, also known as the Capital Region. There are some other counties that are not within the eight county region, but they also will be consulted. Why is water important. 1. Drinking water. 2. Wetlands. 3. Agricultural and industrial use. 4. Power generation. 5. Flood and drought management. 6. Scenic values and recreational and sporting opportunities. 7. Enhances and connects to land use. Why is planning important. Things change. We need to address existing problems and document our needs for the future. The number of requests for out-of-basin diversions including Baltimore is growing. Water and economic development go together. We want to make sure that were well protected for the future. The study will be done in two phases. Phase I, which will take about one year, will include studying existing data and reports and developing a plan of study for Phase II.
