CSTARS3 is a program for the simulation of water profiles and sediment transport in alluvial rivers. The model can be used for channels with fixed or movable boundaries. Water surface profiles are computed using the standard step method, but mixed flow regimes are supported (i.e., subcritical, supercritical, hydraulic jumps, and any mix of sub- and supercritical reaches). GSTARS3 uses the stream tube concept to route sediments in a semi-two-dimensional manner. Sediment is routed by size fractions ranging from clay and silt to small cobbles. The effects of bed sorting and amoring are taken into consideration. The theory of minimum stream power is used to compute channel width changes. This manual describes the theoretical aspects of GSTARS3 and how to prepare the data to run the model.
