Airport Infrastructure: Unresolved Issues Make It Difficult to Determine the Cost to Serve New Large Aircraft.

In July 2001, we mailed a survey to officials at the 23 airports that we identified as likely candidates to serve NLA and asked them if they were planning to accommodate New Large Aircraft (NLA) such as the Airbus A380 at their airport and to estimate the costs for those infrastructure changes that they would likely make if FAA revises the standards and/or grants modifications to their individual airport. We received responses from 22 airports. We asked airports to derive their cost estimates from those that were used to support planning documents, such as an airports master plan and capital budget.
