摘要

This document represents a summary of a 2-day conference, 'Informing Consumers About Health Care Quality: New Directions for Research and Action,' held December 11 and 12, 2000, and organized by the Quality Interagency Coordination Task Force. The goal of the conference was to identify specific strategies for implementing the priorities highlighted in the Research and Action Agenda developed earlier by the Federal Work Group on Consumer Health Information. In particular, the attempt was made to develop strategies for consumers employed in the public and private sectors; older consumers; consumers with special health care needs (e.g., chronic conditions or disabilities); and consumers with special communications needs (related to culture and literacy). Included is discussion of the 2000 Kaiser Family Foundation/Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality National Survey on consumer attitudes concerning information on health care quality.
