Asian and Pacific Islander Adolescents in Substance Abuse Treatment: 1999. The DASIS Report

Asian and Pacific Islander adolescents aged 12 to 17 made up more than 4 percent of the United States adolescent population in 1999. According to the 1999 Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), this group represented only 2 percent of all adolescent admissions to publicly funded substance abuse treatment facilities. The 2,587 Asian and Pacific Islander adolescent admissions in the 1999 TEDS were 66 percent male and 34 percent female compared with 71 and 29 percent, respectively, among the total youth treatment population.
